- Louisiana has extensive biomass energy resources. In 2006, Louisiana generated more than 3,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity from biomass. That’s enough energy to power 200,000 homes. Louisiana also has good solar energy potential.
- Free Flow Power, a hydrokinetic company, is one of four companies that have received preliminary permits to install underwater turbines in Louisiana’s rivers. Free Flow’s proposed Mississippi River project will need about 1,000 to 1,200 people to operate and maintain its turbines, plus additional staff at a manufacturing facility. The company anticipates bringing its first utility-scale projects online in 2013 or 2014.
