Labor unions and environmental groups today announced the launch of a national tour to promote what they say would be scores of manufacturing and other jobs created by “clean energy” and climate change policies. The “Made in America Jobs Tour” is jointly backed by former Vice President Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection and the Blue Green Alliance. The latter group began as a collaboration between the Sierra Club and United Steelworkers and has since added other unions and environmental groups, including the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Service Employees International Union. The groups say the events, which begin with a rally in Cleveland tomorrow, will involve “clean-energy businesses” as well as conversations with workers, and that state and national elected officials are also invited. “It is this moment when American workers and their families need jobs, and the clean energy economy is a surefire way to put our country back to work and on a path toward long-term economic prosperity,” said Alliance for Climate Protection CEO Maggie Fox in a conference call with reporters.
